In Kyiv, I met women that served in the on going war in Eastern Ukraine. They told me about dealing with the war, death, PTSD, going to war young and not having a life waiting for you after. Until 2018, women veterans officially were only allowed to join the military as seamstresses or cooks, nonetheless they were fighting as snipers, storm troopers or grenade launchers at the front. This discrepancy affected allowances from the state and further career opportunities. They are still struggling to attain the same visibility and rights as their male colleagues.
