Laura Gauch is a visual artist focusing on photography and film. HLaura Gauch is a Swiss-Chilean visual artist working across photography, film and text. Her practice is shaped by growing up between different cultures and by her exploration of belonging, Chilean heritage and family history. This experience led her to focus on diasporic and community-based stories, exploring how identities are shaped through personal histories, collective experiences and displacement. Putting a personal and intimate perspective in each project she commits to, Laura strives to create a composition relatable to the viewing audience in order to connect the image to people and their reality.
Her work has been published with NOWNESS, PhotoVogue, among other outlets, and screened at festivals including Solothurner Filmtage and the Oscar-qualifying Palm Springs Film Festival, with the latest film, The Ocean Is Closed on Mondays, receiving critical acclaim and awards such as the Prix Photoforum, Kiefer Hablitzel, and a Special Mention at Video Ex.
